Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

Empowering young women and girls with disabilities to make informed, confident choices about their bodies and futures.

SRHR Empowerment

Dignity, Autonomy & Access

FGWN’s SRHR program equips girls and women with disabilities with knowledge, services, and support to make safe, empowered health decisions. We believe every individual has the right to understand their body, express their needs, and access reproductive healthcare.

Our approach includes community education, peer-led outreach, and partnerships with healthcare providers to build inclusive, youth-friendly, and disability-aware health environments.

We also advocate against child marriage, gender-based violence, and harmful traditional practices that endanger health and freedom.

Our SRHR Initiatives

Community Outreach

We run awareness campaigns and training sessions in schools, community centers, and disability support groups.

SRHR Education

We provide disability-accessible workshops on menstruation, family planning, consent, and relationships.

Inclusive Services

We partner with clinics to train providers in inclusive care and to offer assistive-friendly services for youth.

Champion SRHR Access

Help us expand safe, inclusive, and rights-based reproductive health access for girls and women with disabilities.

Obstetric Violence Report – FGWN

Obstetric Violence: Ending a Nationwide Crisis in Kenya’s Maternity Care

What is Obstetric Violence?

Obstetric violence is the dehumanizing mistreatment of women during pregnancy, childbirth, or the postpartum period. It violates basic human rights and can take many forms:

  • Physical abuse
  • Verbal harassment
  • Psychological harm
  • Forced procedures without consent
  • Discrimination and neglect
  • Illegal or exploitative charges
These violations rob women of their dignity, autonomy, and safety during one of life’s most sacred experiences. At Free a Girl’s World Network (FGWN), we are sounding the alarm: obstetric violence is a national crisis and a blatant violation of human rights.

A Crisis Touching Every Corner of Kenya

From rural clinics to urban hospitals, our fieldwork and testimonies reveal alarming trends:

  • Coercion into cesarean sections for profit, not necessity
  • Denial of antenatal care due to missing health booklets
  • Forced sterilizations without informed consent
  • Neglect, abuse, and illegal maternity fees

These abuses often go unreported. Many women are unaware of their rights or fear speaking out due to stigma and weak accountability systems. This is not just a healthcare failure — it’s a betrayal of public trust.

Our Fight for Justice

At FGWN, we are leading a multi-pronged approach to end obstetric violence:

  • ✅ Advocating for a national policy against obstetric violence
  • ✅ Educating women on their rights to informed and respectful care
  • ✅ Developing digital reporting and tracking systems
  • ✅ Creating spaces for community dialogues and civic education
  • ✅ Supporting legal and medical pathways for justice and accountability
This fight belongs to all of us: from healthcare workers and policymakers to civil society and ordinary citizens. We must stand with survivors, call out harmful practices, and restore dignity in childbirth.
